Consider importing fertilizers from the Middle East and Canada

There is sufficient stock of fertilizer in the country for the current Aman season. Although the price of fertilizer has increased in the international market, the government is not increasing the price for now. But there is some concern about fertilizers for paddy and vegetables in Boro season after Aman. Till now the government used to import potash-mop and urea from Russia and Belarus for winter crops. Due to the international ban on those two countries, the government is now turning to Canada and some countries in the Middle East to get fertilizer.
Fertilizer prices in the world market have increased three times in the last four months. To deal with the situation, the government reduced the supply of fertilizer by one and a half lakh tonnes to 6.6 lakh tonnes this year. In the current fiscal year, the government has about 19 lakh tons of fertilizer. Of this, about 10 lakh tons will be imported. The rest of the fertilizer will be used in the boro season. As a result, there is concern about the supply of fertilizer during Boro season.
When asked, Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzak told Prothom Alo, 'Gas is more important for our industries. Therefore two government factories have been closed. Urea fertilizers are readily available in the international market. At the state level we are trying to buy fertilizers at lower prices. Hopefully, there will be no problem with fertilizer.
